Train tickets to Palitana for the Shatrunjaya yatra

Shatrunjaya, above Palitana, is where Rishabhadev is said to have preached, and its hundreds of temples draw some of the largest Jain gatherings of the year — above all when the hill reopens after the monsoon on Kartik Purnima. Only one regular reserved train runs into Palitana itself, once a week from Mumbai; most sanghs travel to Bhavnagar and take the last stretch by road. We book the trains for families and whole sanghs.

From our desk

Booking a Palitana yatra

  • Kartik Purnima falls on Tuesday 24 November 2026, and booking for that week opened around late September. Not booked yet? The daily Bhavnagar trains, nearby dates and Tatkal are where we look now.
  • No regular train runs from Delhi, Jaipur or Indore to Palitana. From the north, connect at Ahmedabad, or take the weekly Bhavnagar–Ayodhya or Parasnath Express if their days suit.
  • The climb is about 3,500 steps and pilgrims don't stay on the hill overnight — elders arriving on an overnight train rest better in First AC or 2A.
  • Fagun Sud 13, the Chha Gau yatra (around 19–20 March 2027 — confirm the tithi with your panchang), is the other great peak. Book the day booking opens.
For sanghs and families

How we book a sangh

The same care on every booking — whether it is a family of six or a sangh of two hundred.

  • Many PNRs, booked together

Every booking holds up to six yatris — four on Tatkal — so a sangh is several bookings made together, with families kept side by side wherever the train allows.

  • Elders in the right berth

First AC and 2A for elders who need comfort and lower berths, 3A and Sleeper where that suits the group. We ask about every yatri's needs before booking.

  • One list on WhatsApp

Every PNR reaches the organiser on WhatsApp, with a list of who is in which coach and berth — ready to share with the sangh.

  • Each yatri counts

Only a confirmed berth counts, passenger by passenger. Anyone in the sangh left without one gets a 100% refund, even if the others travel.

  • Onward and return together

Long yatras link several tirths. We book every leg — out, between tirths and home — so the whole journey is planned before anyone sets off.

  • Invoices for trusts

When a trust, samaj or company books, we issue a GST invoice.

Our promise

Only a confirmed berth counts. RAC doesn't.

App guarantees treat RAC as a success: you share a berth overnight and they pay nothing. We don't. If we can't deliver a confirmed (CNF) berth, you get a 100% refund, no questions asked — usually the same day, and always within 48 hours of asking — or the alternative that suits you better.

Questions

Palitana by train, answered

Is there a direct train to Palitana?+

Yes, one regular reserved train: the weekly Bandra–Palitana Superfast from Mumbai, via Surat, Vadodara and Ahmedabad, with First AC. Otherwise, daily trains run to Bhavnagar, about 50 km away, and unreserved trains connect Bhavnagar with Palitana daily.

When does Shatrunjaya reopen after the monsoon?+

The hill closes for about four monsoon months and reopens on Kartik Purnima — Tuesday 24 November 2026. It is one of the busiest days of the year at Palitana, so trains in that week fill early.

Can we go from Palitana to Sammed Shikharji by train?+

Yes — the weekly Parasnath Express runs from Bhavnagar to Asansol via Parasnath, the station for Sammed Shikharji, and stops at Shri Mahaveerji on the way. Board at Bhavnagar or Songadh.

How do you book a large sangh to Palitana?+

As several bookings of up to six yatris each, made together. For a big sangh we often split across the weekly Palitana train and the daily Bhavnagar trains so that every yatri confirms — and anyone who doesn't gets a full refund.
