Which Mumbai terminal your Delhi train actually uses
Mumbai's long-distance trains leave from terminals on two different railway zones, and on a weekday the drive between them can take an hour.
Mumbai Central (MMCT)
Western Railway. The Mumbai Rajdhani, the August Kranti Rajdhani and the Mumbai Duronto all start here and run north through Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan.
Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT)
Central Railway. The CSMT Rajdhani to Hazrat Nizamuddin starts here and takes a different route north from the Western line trains — a separate set of seats when the Mumbai Central Rajdhanis are full.
Bandra Terminus & Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT)
Suburban terminals for many long-distance express trains to north India. Convenient from the suburbs, but the premium Delhi trains leave from Mumbai Central or CSMT instead.
Borivali, Dadar, Thane & Kalyan
Many long-distance trains also stop at suburban stations like these. Boarding at a stop along the way can put you on a smaller waiting list than at the starting terminal, so we check the quota before recommending it.
The Delhi end
The Mumbai Rajdhani runs to New Delhi; the August Kranti Rajdhani, the CSMT Rajdhani and the Duronto run to Hazrat Nizamuddin. If you are being met or connecting in Delhi, that difference matters.
