The rail desk for Kolkata's offices and industry
The Kolkata Metropolitan Region runs from the IT campuses of Sector V and New Town to the jute and engineering belt along the Hooghly — and all of it moves by rail: Rajdhanis to Delhi, the Vande Bharat to Puri, overnight trains to the tea gardens. We run that booking for the companies here from our licensed desk in Delhi, at the other end of the Rajdhani.
Which terminal suits which side of the city
In Kolkata the choice of terminal is really a choice of river crossing. The East–West Metro has changed which one is quicker from where.
Sealdah (SDAH)
The closer terminal for Salt Lake Sector V and New Town — Sealdah and Sector V are on the same East–West Metro line. The Sealdah Rajdhani and the trains to north Bengal start here.
Howrah (HWH)
The biggest terminal, across the river from BBD Bag. The East–West Metro now runs under the Hooghly from Mahakaran to Howrah station, which beats the bridges at office hours.
Santragachi (SRC) & Shalimar (SHM)
Several long-distance trains to the south and west start here rather than Howrah. From Sector V that's a very different journey, so we flag these bookings.
Bandel & the Hooghly towns
For staff in the industrial towns up the river, boarding at a junction on the main line can save the trip into Howrah altogether. We check it where the train allows.
Durga Puja: the whole city travels at once
Every autumn, Kolkata's offices close for Puja and much of the city takes its holiday at the same time — to Puri, to the hills, to family elsewhere — while colleagues from Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru travel in. The trains out of Howrah and Sealdah fill together.
For companies, that means staff who can't get home or back, and client visits that can't move. We handle staff and business travel through the Puja weeks, booking the moment each date opens.
Puja travel opens 60 days out — usually in August. That's the week to send us the list.
Where the demand comes from
Salt Lake Sector V
Kolkata's IT and ITES hub: large young teams, Puja and Chhath travel, and client visits to Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Pune.
New Town & Rajarhat
The newer IT parks and corporate campuses near the airport, and the convention centre — delegates and offsite groups.
BBD Bag & Dalhousie
The old business district: banks, shipping and freight firms, tea companies and government-facing offices. Formal invoicing, and bookings through a named contact.
Park Street, Camac Street & AJC Bose Road
Head offices, consultancies and consulates. Executive travel to Delhi and Mumbai, and to Bhubaneswar and Guwahati for regional work.
Howrah & the Hooghly industrial belt
Engineering works, foundries and the jute mills along the river, with workforces from Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha and UP — and heavy Chhath travel.
Port, shipbuilding & logistics
Around the docks, Garden Reach and Taratala: rotating staff and project teams travelling to ports and yards along the east coast.
The corridors we book most from Kolkata
- Howrah & Sealdah – Delhi on the Rajdhani (the premium corporate corridor)
- Howrah – Mumbai via Nagpur
- Howrah – Bhubaneswar & Puri by Vande Bharat and Jan Shatabdi
- Howrah & Sealdah – New Jalpaiguri for Darjeeling, Sikkim and the tea gardens
- Howrah – Ranchi, Jamshedpur & Dhanbad for the steel and coal belt
- Howrah – Guwahati & the Northeast
Not every 'authorised agent' is the same
IRCTC registration is widely held and easy to obtain. A licence from Indian Railways is neither.
IRCTC Authorised Agent
Registration with IRCTC for e-ticketing. Low barrier to obtain and widely held across the trade — which is why, on its own, it tells you nothing about a vendor's depth.
YTSK (PPP) — licensed by Indian Railways
Not a registration with a subsidiary. A licence awarded by Indian Railways under the Yatri Ticket Suvidha Kendra public–private partnership, on terms carrying a substantial fee and deposit. Few ticketing operators hold one.
Us vs. the average train agent
Every row is something you can hold us to in the contract.
| Average train agent | Rail Yatri Suvidha Kendra | |
|---|---|---|
| Authorisation | IRCTC registration only | YTSK (PPP) licensed by Indian Railways, plus IRCTC authorised agent |
| Focus | Rail is one line among flights, hotels, visas and packages | Rail only. There is no other desk to prioritise over yours |
| Conflict of interest | Also sells flights and corporate travel — a live route to your client | No air desk, no packages, no corporate travel arm. We cannot become your competitor |
| Tatkal readiness | Best effort, whoever is free at the time | Agents at the terminal for the 10:00 AC and 11:00 Sleeper windows, every day |
| Waitlist handling | Booked, then left to the passenger to watch | Tracked to chart preparation, with status pushed to you rather than waiting to be asked |
| Quota strategy | Books whatever was asked for | GNWL, PQWL, RLWL and TQWL behave differently — we route bookings toward the ones that actually clear |
| Cancellations & TDR | Handed back to you to file | Filed, tracked and reconciled as part of the service |
| Invoicing | Ad hoc, per booking | Monthly, GST compliant, with a reconciliation statement in your format |
| Escalation | Whoever picks up the phone | A named contact, reachable when a passenger is stranded outside office hours |
| Peak season | Same capacity as any other month | Surge capacity planned for Chhath, Diwali, Holi and the summer rush |
What we take off your desk
Confirmed bookings

The window is measured in seconds. We are at the keyboard for it, every day, not on request.
Waitlist & RAC
Tracked to chart preparation with an honest probability, not false comfort.
Group quota
Handled to Railway rules, with berths kept together as far as the system allows.
Cancellations, TDR & refunds
The admin an air-first desk would rather not carry. We carry it.
Peak-season overflow
Festival surge cover for when your own desk is at its limit.
Reconciliation
A monthly statement matching your records line by line, in your format.
Escalation cover
A named person for the call that arrives at 11pm about a stranded delegate.
From request to reconciliation
You send the request
Passenger details, route, date and class through whatever channel suits you — a shared inbox, a WhatsApp line, or a feed into your system.
We assess and quote
Availability checked across trains, dates and quotas. Where your first choice will not confirm, we come back with the options that will, and say so plainly.

We book and return the PNR
Ticket and PNR back to you in the agreed format, ready to pass to your client under your own brand.

Waitlisted and RAC bookings tracked to chart preparation, with status pushed to you.
Month-end reconciliation
One statement — bookings, cancellations, refunds due, service charges — matching your records.
What our clients say
“I travel Delhi–Mumbai almost every week. When Tatkal sells out in seconds, these are the people I message. They have confirmed seats for me more times than I can count, on Rajdhani and Vande Bharat both.”
“We had 11 people travelling for a wedding and were stuck on a long waitlist. I sent one WhatsApp message with everyone's details and they coordinated the whole thing. Almost all confirmed.”
Request a proposal
Tell us your volume and we'll come back with service charge bands, credit terms and an SLA — not a generic brochure.
Group booking request
One journey, many passengers — offsites, conferences, weddings, educational and religious travel.
Asked by Kolkata & KMR teams
Do you have an office in Kolkata?+
No — our licensed desk is in Karol Bagh, New Delhi, at the other end of the Rajdhani, and everything runs over WhatsApp, phone and email. Rail booking doesn't need a local office: Indian Railways is one national reservation system. What matters is the licence, the specialisation and whether someone answers when a plan changes late.
Which terminal suits Sector V and New Town?+
Usually Sealdah — it's on the same East–West Metro line as Sector V. For trains that only run from Howrah, the metro now goes under the river to Howrah station, which is more predictable than the bridges at office hours. We name the terminal on every booking.
Can you handle Durga Puja travel for our staff?+
Yes. Send the list before the windows open — for Puja week that's usually August — and we book each date as it opens, both ways. We'll tell you honestly which dates can't be met.
Do you invoice monthly with GST?+
Yes — one GST invoice a month with a reconciliation statement, against credit terms agreed when the account is set up. Staff can also pay per booking if that suits your policy.
