Vande Bharat vs Shatabdi: which is better for your trip?
Both are daytime chair-car trains on short and medium corridors, and on several routes out of Delhi you can choose either. The Vande Bharat is usually quicker; the Shatabdi is often easier to get a seat on. Which matters more depends on how early you're booking.

On both trains, EC is the fallback almost nobody checks
Executive chair car sells more slowly than standard chair car on both the Vande Bharat and the Shatabdi. When CC has sold out, EC is frequently still open — and on a journey of a few hours the extra cost is modest against a confirmed seat instead of a waiting list that, on a Vande Bharat especially, is unlikely to move.
Which one to book
Choose Vande Bharat if…
You can book early, speed matters, and your date isn't a religious peak on a pilgrimage corridor. Don't hold a Vande Bharat waitlist and hope.
Choose Shatabdi if…
You're booking at shorter notice, making a same-day return, or the Vande Bharat on your date is already full.
Either — but take EC if…
Chair car is gone on the train you want. It is the quickest way to a confirmed seat on both.

Is Vande Bharat better than Shatabdi?+
Faster, usually, and newer. But 'better' depends on your date. A Vande Bharat's fixed formation means its waitlists clear poorly, so at short notice a confirmed Shatabdi seat is often the smarter booking.
Why is Vande Bharat always full?+
High demand on a fixed trainset. Coaches can't simply be added to meet demand, so the only movement comes from cancellations. On pilgrimage routes to Ayodhya, Varanasi and Katra, the religious calendar drives it too — quiet-looking dates can be sold out.
Does Vande Bharat have sleeper coaches?+
The Vande Bharat services on Delhi's day corridors are chair-car trains. If your journey needs a berth overnight, a Rajdhani or Duronto is the right train.
Is food included?+
Catering is offered on both. Whether it's included in your fare or chosen separately is shown when you book, and it can change, so check at the booking stage rather than assuming.
