Delhi to Kolkata train tickets

A long eastern haul with two very different arrival stations, and travellers regularly book the wrong one. Howrah and Sealdah sit on opposite sides of the Hooghly — an hour apart in Kolkata traffic.

Who travels Delhi to Kolkata, and when

Steady year-round with sharp peaks at Durga Puja, when the whole corridor tightens for roughly three weeks. Mixed business and family travel, weighted towards 3A and Sleeper.

What actually confirms on this route

Originating services from New Delhi put you in GNWL, which clears best on a route this long. The distance works in your favour on waitlists — long-haul trains see more cancellations across the booking window than short hops, so a mid-range GNWL here is a better bet than the same number on a 300 km route.

Booking Delhi–Kolkata without getting caught out

  • Confirm which side of the river you are actually going to before choosing Howrah or Sealdah. It is a real hour of difference.
  • Durga Puja compresses demand into a narrow window. Treat it the way we treat Chhath on the Patna corridor.
  • On a journey this long, a side-lower RAC berth is a genuinely uncomfortable 20 hours. Worth paying up a class rather than accepting RAC.

Why book Kolkata through us rather than an app

We read the quota

An app shows you a number. We tell you whether that number will actually clear on this route.

We work the Tatkal window

Agents at the terminal for 10:00 AC and 11:00 Sleeper, every day — not on request.

Confirmed or refunded

You approve the plan and pay. If we can't confirm you, you get 100% back.

Questions

Delhi to Kolkata, answered

Howrah or Sealdah — which should I book?+

Whichever is closer to where you are actually staying. Howrah serves the west bank and connects onward to the rest of Bengal; Sealdah is inside north Kolkata and better for the city centre and the north. Availability differs between them on the same date, so we check both.

Is a waitlisted Delhi–Kolkata ticket likely to clear?+

Better odds than most routes, because long-haul services accumulate cancellations across the full booking window. A GNWL in the low tens on an originating train is a reasonable bet. We will still tell you where the real line is.
