Why group bookings go wrong
Six to a booking
Every booking holds up to six passengers — four on Tatkal. A group of forty is at least seven bookings, and each one gets its own berths.
Late bookings scatter
Once a train starts filling, the berths left are spread across coaches. Groups booked the day the window opens sit together far more often.
Part-confirmed is the real risk
Some bookings confirm and some don't, and someone has to stay behind. We plan to avoid that — and tell you before you pay if a date can't hold the whole group.

Big group? Book the whole coach
Indian Railways lets a group book an entire coach — or even a whole train — under its Full Tariff Rate (FTR) scheme. It suits groups big enough to fill a coach, and it keeps everyone together by design. We'll tell you when it's worth it and help with the booking.

Tell us about the group and we'll come back with the trains and classes that can hold it.
Only a confirmed berth counts. RAC doesn't.
App guarantees treat RAC as a success: you share a berth overnight and they pay nothing. We don't. If we can't deliver a confirmed (CNF) berth, you get a 100% refund, no questions asked — usually the same day, and always within 48 hours of asking — or the alternative that suits you better.
Group bookings, answered
How many passengers can be on one ticket?+
Up to six on a normal booking, and four on Tatkal. A bigger group is several bookings, which we make together.
Can the whole group sit together?+
We give it the best chance: booking early, all at once, in classes with space. On ordinary bookings nobody can guarantee it, because the system allots the berths. If the group must be together, a whole coach under the FTR scheme is the sure way.
What if only part of the group gets confirmed?+
We tell you before you pay if a date can't realistically hold the whole group, and suggest trains or dates that can. The promise works passenger by passenger: anyone left without a confirmed berth gets a 100% refund, or the alternative that suits them better.
Can we use Tatkal for a group?+
Tatkal allows four passengers per booking and opens the day before travel — 10:00 for AC classes, 11:00 for Sleeper. It can top up a group, but it isn't a way to book a big group from scratch.
How far ahead should we book?+
As early as possible. The reservation window opens 60 days before travel, not counting the travel date. For weddings and festival dates, the day it opens is the day to book.

Yes, for organisations that need one — mention it when you send the group details.
