Delhi to Patna train tickets

The hardest corridor in the country to get confirmed, and the one we work most. Demand runs far ahead of supply almost year-round, and in the weeks around Chhath it stops being a booking problem and becomes a planning problem.

Who travels Delhi to Patna, and when

Delhi NCR holds one of the largest Bihari populations outside Bihar, and this route carries them home. Demand is heavy all year, spikes hard for Holi and Diwali, and peaks beyond anything else on the network for Chhath in October–November. Sleeper and 3A carry most of it.

What actually confirms on this route

Book from New Delhi or Anand Vihar where the train originates, so you sit in GNWL — the general waiting list clears far more reliably than the alternatives. Avoid boarding points that put you in RLWL on this corridor; a remote-location waitlist here routinely fails to clear even when the number looks small. Where dates have any flexibility at all, moving by a single day is often worth more than any quota trick.

Booking Delhi–Patna without getting caught out

  • For Chhath, start 60 days out. Not 30 — 60. By the time the rush is visible the berths are gone.
  • Anand Vihar is the far side of Delhi from Gurgaon and West Delhi. Factor the travel time in before choosing a train from there.
  • A confirmed 3A on a different date beats a WL 40 in Sleeper on the date you wanted. We will say so rather than book the waitlist and hope.

Why book Patna through us rather than an app

We read the quota

An app shows you a number. We tell you whether that number will actually clear on this route.

We work the Tatkal window

Agents at the terminal for 10:00 AC and 11:00 Sleeper, every day — not on request.

Confirmed or refunded

You approve the plan and pay. If we can't confirm you, you get 100% back.

Questions

Delhi to Patna, answered

How far in advance should I book Delhi to Patna?+

For ordinary travel, as early as the reservation window opens gives you the best position. For Chhath, treat 60 days ahead as the deadline rather than the ideal — this is the single most contested route in the country during that fortnight, and waiting until the rush is obvious means it is already too late.

My Delhi–Patna ticket is waitlisted. Will it confirm?+

It depends far more on which waiting list you are on than on the number. A GNWL 30 on an originating train frequently clears; an RLWL 8 on this corridor often does not. Send us the PNR and we will read it honestly — including telling you when it will not clear, so you can make another plan while there is still time.

Which is better, Patna Junction or Rajendra Nagar?+

It depends on the train and where in Patna you are going. Rajendra Nagar Terminal originates several services, which can mean better availability than an intermediate halt at Patna Junction. We check both before recommending one.
