How to get a confirmed berth for the Mela
Send your dates before booking opens
Tell us the bathing day, who is travelling and the class. We book the morning your date opens, 60 days ahead, because on the big bathing days the general quota can be gone that same morning.
Book the journey back at the same time
Everyone leaves Prayagraj on the same few days after a bathing day. Booking for the return opens two days after the outward journey's, so book both together rather than waiting until you are there.
Travel the day before your snan
The snan starts before dawn and the crowds build through the night. Arriving the day before gives you time to reach the ghat.
Book to the right station for your direction
The Vande Bharats and Rajdhanis from Delhi use Prayagraj Junction, about 8 km from the Sangam. Trains from the Lucknow side end at Prayagraj Sangam, the nearest station. During the Mela, Railways moves some trains and runs one-way entry at the junction, so expect to walk.
Keep the family on one booking
A booking holds six passengers, four on Tatkal. For a larger family or group, tell us the headcount upfront so we book every PNR together.

On the Vande Bharat, executive chair car is often still open when chair car has gone. On a full date, the overnight Prayagraj Express and the Rajdhanis are the other ways from Delhi, all with First AC.

When is the Magh Mela in 2027?+
From Makar Sankranti on Friday 15 January to Mahashivratri on Saturday 6 March 2027, at the Sangam in Prayagraj. Mauni Amavasya, on Saturday 6 February, is the biggest bathing day. The dates are from the panchang; the Mela administration confirms them closer to the time.
When does train booking open for Mauni Amavasya?+
If you travel the day before, on Friday 5 February, booking opens on Monday 7 December 2026 at 8:00 AM, 60 days ahead. For travel on the day itself it opens a day later. Send us your dates before then.
Is 2027 a Kumbh year at Prayagraj?+
No. The Maha Kumbh was at Prayagraj in 2025. In 2027 Prayagraj holds its yearly Magh Mela, and the Ardh Kumbh is at Haridwar.
Which station should we book to?+
Prayagraj Junction for the Vande Bharats and Rajdhanis from Delhi, about 8 km from the Sangam. Prayagraj Sangam is the nearest station, about 2.6 km away, for trains from the Lucknow side. Tell us where you are staying and we pick the station.
