Fake tickets and fake PNRs: how to stay safe when you are in a hurry

People who are short of time are the easiest targets. Stations have touts who sell tickets at many times the real price, and some give out a fake PNR or a doctored ticket. Here is how to check any ticket yourself, in two minutes, before you pay or travel. RYSK is an independent, licensed train ticket booking desk. We are not the official force portal, and we do not claim any railway quota.

The problem

What to look out for

A price far above the ticket

If a stranger asks for many times the normal price for a confirmed berth, walk away. Real tickets do not cost ten times their fare.

A PNR you cannot check

A real PNR shows up on the railway enquiry (call 139) and on the IRCTC site, with the right train, date and passenger names. If it does not, it is not real.

A ticket that only exists on a screenshot

A screenshot or printout alone proves nothing. Always check the PNR yourself, using your own phone, not the seller's.

Pressure to pay now

Touts rush you because you are short of time. A genuine booking can wait two minutes for you to check it.

Only a confirmed berth counts. RAC doesn't.

App guarantees treat RAC as a success: you share a berth overnight and they pay nothing. We don't. If we can't deliver a confirmed (CNF) berth, you get a 100% refund, no questions asked — usually the same day, and always within 48 hours of asking — or the alternative that suits you better.

Why it pays

What you get

Confirmed berth, or full refund

Only a confirmed berth counts. If we cannot confirm, you get a full refund of what you paid us for that seat.

FAQ

Questions personnel ask

How do I check a PNR myself?+

Call 139 or use the IRCTC website or app, enter the 10-digit PNR, and check the train, date, boarding station and passenger names. Do this on your own phone, before you pay or travel.

What should I do if I think I was cheated?+

Keep the ticket, PNR, any messages and payment proof. Report it to the Railway Protection Force (RPF) at the station or through the railway helpline, and to the police. You can also send us the PNR and we tell you what it shows.

Why do you not name the portals or agents involved?+

This page is about staying safe, not about naming anyone. The same two-minute check works for any ticket from anyone.

How do I know a train ticket is real and not a fake PNR?+

Check the PNR on the Indian Railways enquiry (call 139) or on the IRCTC website before you pay or travel. Never pay a stranger at a station, and be careful with anyone who asks for much more than the ticket costs. If you are unsure, send us the PNR on WhatsApp and we will tell you what it shows.
