One station, at the end of the line
Jaisalmer has a single station, the last stop on the line from Jodhpur. For a Delhi group, the station you board at matters more, because none of the Jaisalmer trains uses New Delhi.

Direct trains to Jaisalmer, by city
Express trains only. No Vande Bharat, Rajdhani or Shatabdi runs to Jaisalmer, and there's no chair car: you travel in First AC, Second AC, Third AC or Sleeper. Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Pune have no direct train.
From Delhi
Three daily overnight trains: the Swarn Nagari from Shakurbasti and the Runicha from Old Delhi, about 16 hours, and the Ranikhet through Old Delhi, a few hours longer. None runs from New Delhi station.
From Jaipur
The Swarn Nagari and Ranikhet run through Jaipur every day, about 10 hours on the faster one. The Leelan Express starts at Jaipur and goes the long way round, via Bikaner.
From Jodhpur
Nearly every Jaisalmer train comes through Jodhpur, and the last 300 km take about five hours. None of the express trains starts at Jodhpur.
From Bikaner
The Leelan Express, daily, about six hours. Third AC and Sleeper only.
From Ahmedabad
Two daily trains, one by day and one overnight, about 13½ hours. Both start at Sabarmati, not Ahmedabad Junction. Second AC, Third AC and Sleeper.
From Mumbai
One train a week, from Bandra Terminus through Surat, Vadodara and Ahmedabad, about 21 hours. A Mumbai group fits its dates to that train.
The trip home starts at Jaisalmer
Every train begins its journey here, so the return is always booked from the starting station, with the train's own quota and a plain waitlist (GNWL) if it comes to that. It opens 60 days before the return date, usually a few days after the outward trip opens. We note both dates and book each on its morning.
When booking opens for Jaisalmer this winter
Booking opens 60 days ahead at 8:00 AM. Christmas and New Year dates open between 25 October and 1 November, and the Republic Day weekend in the last week of November.

Count from the day the train leaves its starting station. A few short-distance trains open later than 60 days.

School and college tours
Winter is tour season, and Jaisalmer is a long way by road from anywhere. One overnight train with berths gets the whole group there together.
Office trips and offsites
January to March, before the financial year closes. The team books from one Delhi station on one morning.
Families and wedding parties
Christmas, New Year and the Republic Day weekend fill first, and Rajasthan's wedding season runs through the winter.
Booking a Jaisalmer group
Live in west Delhi or Gurgaon? The Delhi trains also stop at Delhi Cantt and Gurgaon. We book from the starting station and set your boarding point there.

A Rajasthan circuit is several bookings, and each leg opens 60 days before its own date. Send the whole plan and we keep every morning.
From Mumbai there's one train a week. If your dates can move, move them to it: one booking is easier than a change at Ahmedabad.
Only a confirmed berth counts. RAC doesn't.

No. The Runicha Express starts at Old Delhi (Delhi Junction), the Swarn Nagari Express starts at Shakurbasti, and the Ranikhet Express comes through Old Delhi from Kathgodam. All three also stop at Delhi Cantt and Gurgaon.
How long is the train from Delhi to Jaisalmer?+
About 16 hours overnight on the Swarn Nagari and the Runicha, a few hours more on the Ranikhet.
Is there a Vande Bharat, Rajdhani or Shatabdi to Jaisalmer?+
No. Every train to Jaisalmer is an express with berths: First AC, Second AC, Third AC and Sleeper. There's no chair car.
Is there a direct train from Kolkata, Bengaluru, Chennai or Hyderabad?+
No. Groups from those cities come to Delhi, Jaipur or Ahmedabad and change there. Mumbai has one train a week, from Bandra Terminus.
When does booking open for the Desert Festival?+
Rajasthan Tourism lists the Desert Festival 2027 for 18 to 20 February. Booking for travel on 18 February opens on 20 December at 8:00 AM, and for 17 February a day earlier.
What if the train doesn't confirm?+
Every passenger who isn't confirmed gets a 100% refund, and you know on opening morning. Try the train first: if it doesn't confirm, there are still about two months to book a flight for the same date, and a day or two that far out rarely changes the fare much.
