Goa's Christmas and New Year trains fill the morning booking opens, and the extra specials are announced weeks later. Goa also has four stations that matter, and the right one depends on the train as much as where you're staying. For college groups, office trips and families this winter, we book on opening morning and confirm every passenger or refund them.

Four stations, and not every train stops at all of them
Thivim and Karmali are on the Konkan line in the north, Madgaon is the big junction in the south, and Vasco is the end of the line by the airport.

Near Mapusa, the main station for North Goa. The Mumbai Vande Bharat, the Jan Shatabdi and the Goa Rajdhani stop here but not at Karmali.
KarmaliKRMI
The closest station to Panaji. The Tejas stops here but not at Thivim. The Mandovi and Konkan Kanya stop at both.
MadgaonMAO
Margao, in South Goa, and Goa's busiest station. Most Mumbai trains and the Goa Rajdhani start here, and Kerala-bound trains stop.
Vasco da GamaVSG
The end of the line, about 5 km from Dabolim airport. The daily Goa Express to Delhi and the daily Bengaluru train start here.
Direct trains to Goa, by city
Ahmedabad has weekly trains only and Chennai has none. The Konkan line ran its slower monsoon timetable from 15 June to 20 October 2026, so check times again for winter.
From Mumbai
The most choice. The Mandovi, Konkan Kanya and Jan Shatabdi run daily, the Vande Bharat and Tejas three days a week, and trains from LTT and Bandra twice a week. The Vande Bharat, Tejas and Jan Shatabdi are chair-car trains; the Mandovi and Konkan Kanya have berths.
From Delhi
Mostly from Hazrat Nizamuddin: the Goa Express daily to Vasco, which runs via Pune rather than the Konkan coast; the Mangala Lakshadweep daily; the Goa Rajdhani twice a week. The Goa Sampark Kranti, twice a week, is the one train that also boards at New Delhi.
From Pune
No daily train of its own. The Goa Express from Delhi passes through every day, and a few weekly Kerala trains stop at Madgaon.
From Bengaluru
One daily train, from Yesvantpur to Vasco, with Second AC, Third AC and Sleeper. Anything else is weekly or a special.
From Hyderabad
Trains to Vasco from Hyderabad and Secunderabad on four days of the week between them, inland via Londa.
From Kolkata
The Amaravati Express from Shalimar to Vasco, four days a week, about 39 hours to Madgaon. Nothing from Howrah.
Trains that start in Goa, for the trip home
From Madgaon, the Mandovi, Konkan Kanya and Jan Shatabdi leave for Mumbai every day, and the Goa Rajdhani for Delhi. From Vasco, the Goa Express to Delhi and the Bengaluru train run daily. Book the return on one of these and the group gets the starting station's quota. It opens 60 days before the return date: for a trip back on 1 to 3 January, on 2 to 4 November.
When booking opens for Goa this winter
Booking opens 60 days ahead at 8:00 AM. Christmas and New Year dates open between 25 October and 1 November, and the Republic Day weekend in the last week of November.

When does booking open for your Goa group?
Pick your travel date to see the morning we need to book.
Try the train first. We tell you on opening morning whether it's confirmed. If it isn't, there are still about two months to book a flight for the same date, and a day or two that far out rarely changes the fare much.
Count from the day the train leaves its starting station. A few short-distance trains open later than 60 days.
Who takes Goa by train
College and school groups
December to February is tour season. One train with berths carries the whole group together.
Office trips and offsites
January to March, before the financial year closes. The whole team on one train, booked from one station on one morning.
Friends and families
Christmas and New Year, the dates that fill first. Send the coming-back date with the going date.
Booking a Goa group
Don't wait for the specials. Last winter's Mumbai–Goa specials were announced in December, a week or two before they ran, long after the regular trains filled on opening morning.
Choose the station by the train as well as the stay: the Vande Bharat and Jan Shatabdi skip Karmali, and the Tejas skips Thivim.
From Delhi, only the Goa Express and the Mangala Lakshadweep run every day. A big group that fits its dates to a daily train has more room to move.
Send the return with the outward trip. A New Year return opens in the first days of November, and we book both mornings.
Only a confirmed berth counts. RAC doesn't.

Which Goa station should a group book?+
Thivim for North Goa around Mapusa, Karmali for Panaji, Madgaon for South Goa, and Vasco for the airport side. Check the train too: the Vande Bharat and Jan Shatabdi don't stop at Karmali, and the Tejas doesn't stop at Thivim.
Will there be special trains for Christmas and New Year?+
Probably. Last winter Central Railway ran daily Mumbai–Karmali specials from 19 December to 5 January. But they were announced in December, after the regular trains had filled. Book the regular train on opening morning; if a special comes, we can look at it too.
Is there a train to Goa from New Delhi station?+
Only the Goa Sampark Kranti, twice a week. The Goa Express, the Goa Rajdhani and the Mangala Lakshadweep leave from Hazrat Nizamuddin.
Is there a direct train from Chennai or Ahmedabad?+
Not from Chennai. Ahmedabad has weekly trains that stop at Madgaon, most of them on the way to Kerala, but nothing daily.
When is Goa Carnival 2027?+
Goa Tourism lists it for February 2027 and fixes the dates later; for 2026 the official dates came three days before it started. Other calendars say 6 to 9 February. Booking for 5 February opens on 7 December.
What if the train doesn't confirm?+
Every passenger who isn't confirmed gets a 100% refund, and you know on opening morning. Try the train first: if it doesn't confirm, there are still about two months to book a flight for the same date, and a day or two that far out rarely changes the fare much.
