Who travels Bengaluru to Mangaluru, and when
Overnight travel to the coast for families and business through the week, and day trains taken partly for the ghat itself — they carry a Vistadome coach.
Every useful train starts in Bengaluru, so you're on the main quota: the daily KSR–Kozhikode overnight train via Yesvantpur and the ghat; the Yesvantpur day trains to Mangaluru Junction and Karwar; and, via Mysuru, the daily SMVT–Murdeshwar Express and the KSR–Kannur train three days a week. The two Mangaluru stations are about 6 km apart — Central in the city at Hampankatta, Junction at Padil — and trains don't all use both.

Booking Bengaluru–Mangaluru without getting caught out
- The Yesvantpur day trains to Karwar and Mangaluru end or reverse at Mangaluru Junction and skip Central.
- For Udupi, Kundapura or Bhatkal, the Panchaganga Express from KSR to Karwar goes up the coast without stopping at either Mangaluru station.
- The ghat stretch from Sakleshpur to Subrahmanya Road is about 110 km and timetabled at about three hours — slow, but the reason to take the day train.

Bengaluru to Mangaluru, answered
Mangaluru Central or Junction?+
Central is in the city centre at Hampankatta; Junction is at Padil, about 6 km out. The overnight trains via the ghat and via Mysuru stop at both; the Yesvantpur day trains use Junction only. We book whichever is closer to where you're going.
Ghat route or via Mysuru?+
The ghat route through Hassan is shorter, at about nine and a half hours. The trains via Mysuru take two or three hours longer but suit the Mysuru Road side, boarding at Kengeri. Both start in Bengaluru.
