Who travels Bengaluru to Mysuru, and when
Weekends and holidays, day trips, and Mysuru Dasara in September or October, when the city fills for the festival's last days.
The Rajya Rani, Wodeyar, Chamundi and Malgudi Expresses start at KSR, so they carry Bengaluru's own general quota. The Shatabdi and the Vande Bharats come from Chennai and call only at KSR in Bengaluru; erail shows the Shatabdi with a large block of its own for Bengaluru to Mysuru, while the Vande Bharats show none, so from Bengaluru the Shatabdi is usually the easier of the two. Many long-distance trains from Mysuru run the other way through Bengaluru as well.

Booking Bengaluru–Mysuru without getting caught out
- The Tipu Express is now the Wodeyar Express, renamed in 2022 — the same train, starting at KSR.
- Kengeri is the stop for the Mysuru Road side, and most expresses call there — but the Shatabdi and the Vande Bharats don't.
- From the east side, one of the Vande Bharats and the Kaveri Express stop at KR Puram on their way to Mysuru.

Bengaluru to Mysuru, answered
Shatabdi or Vande Bharat to Mysuru?+
Both are fast chair-car trains that start in Chennai and stop only at KSR in Bengaluru (one Vande Bharat also at KR Puram). The Shatabdi carries its own block of seats for Bengaluru to Mysuru, so it is often the easier one to confirm from Bengaluru. If both are full, the expresses that start at KSR take a little longer.
Mysuru Junction or Ashokapuram?+
Mysuru Junction for most of the city and onward trains; Ashokapuram, in south Mysuru, is where the Malgudi Express and some local trains end.
