The Konkan line is one of the most beautiful train journeys in India and the busiest leisure route out of Mumbai. Goa has three stations that matter, and the right one depends entirely on which part of Goa you're heading to.

Who travels Mumbai to Goa, and when
Weekends all year, the Christmas and New Year rush, the summer holidays — and Ganpati, when the Konkan coast's own people head home from Mumbai and every train on the line fills at once.
Most Goa trains start at CSMT, Dadar or LTT, so you book at the originating station and a waitlist is GNWL. But the route is short and leisure-heavy: cancellations are fewer and come late, so a high waitlist on a holiday weekend rarely clears. The Vande Bharat, Tejas and Jan Shatabdi are daytime chair-car runs; the overnight trains give you a berth and a full first day.

Booking Mumbai–Goa without getting caught out
- North Goa? Get off at Thivim. Panaji and Old Goa: Karmali. South Goa: Madgaon. The right station saves an hour or more by road.
- The Konkan line runs a slower monsoon timetable from June to October — journeys take longer, so leave room in any connection.
- Ganpati week fills every Konkan train weeks ahead. If your dates touch it, book the day the window opens.

Mumbai to Goa, answered
Which Goa station should I book?+
Thivim for North Goa — Calangute, Baga, Anjuna. Karmali for Panaji and Old Goa. Madgaon for South Goa — Colva and Benaulim. We book to the station nearest where you're staying.
Is the train slower in the monsoon?+
Yes. From June to October the Konkan line runs a monsoon timetable with lower speeds for safety, so journeys take noticeably longer. The scenery makes up for it.
