Tatkal vs Premium Tatkal: what the difference is, and what it means for you
Premium Tatkal is not a better Tatkal. It is a slice of the Tatkal quota on some trains that Indian Railways sells at a fare that rises as the seats go, confirmed seats only, no refund if you cancel, and only on the IRCTC website and app. No counter and no agent can book it, including us. Here is the full comparison, and what a desk like ours does when ordinary Tatkal is gone.

Can an agent book Premium Tatkal? No. Here is what we do instead.
We tell you whether it is worth it
Premium Tatkal is often the only confirmed seat on a sold-out train, at a price that climbs. Before you pay it, a person reads the train and the date and tells you whether an ordinary berth, a different train or a quota the apps do not show will confirm instead.
If Premium Tatkal is the right call, you book it yourself
On your own Aadhaar-verified IRCTC login, in the first minute of the window. We tell you the exact window, the class to pick and what to have ready.
If it is not, we book what will confirm
Ordinary Tatkal staged the evening before, a general-quota berth on the right train, or the flight-to-train check when the date cannot move. Confirmed berth or 100% refund — RAC doesn't count.
What our customers say
“Messaged at 9:50 AM for a same-day AC Tatkal. They were ready at 10 sharp and I had a confirmed berth within minutes. A real person beats refreshing the app yourself.”
“Booked Tatkal for our whole family in one go on WhatsApp. Super smooth, kept us updated.”
Premium Tatkal questions
What is Premium Tatkal?+
A part of the Tatkal quota on selected trains that Indian Railways sells at a dynamic fare: the price rises in steps as seats sell, up to a cap. It gives confirmed seats only, carries no waiting list and no refund on cancellation, and is booked only on the IRCTC website and app.
What is the difference between Tatkal and Premium Tatkal?+
Fare and refund are the big ones. Tatkal adds a fixed charge to the fare; Premium Tatkal's fare climbs as it fills. Tatkal has a waiting list; Premium Tatkal has none. Tatkal can be booked at counters and through authorised agents; Premium Tatkal only on IRCTC online. Both open at the same time, one day before travel, and neither refunds a confirmed ticket you cancel.
What is the Premium Tatkal booking time?+
The same as Tatkal: 10:00 AM for AC classes and 11:00 AM for Sleeper, one day before the train leaves its starting station.
Is Premium Tatkal available on all trains?+
No. Only on selected trains, mostly busy long-distance ones. On the IRCTC site it shows as a separate quota option when the train has it.
Can I get a refund on a Premium Tatkal ticket?+
Not if you cancel. A full refund applies only when the railway cancels the train or it runs very late under the railway's rules.
Can a travel agent book Premium Tatkal for me?+
No. Premium Tatkal is sold only on the IRCTC website and app to the passenger's own account. An agent who says otherwise is not booking it the way the railway allows. What an authorised agent can do is tell you whether a confirmed berth exists another way, and book that.
Premium Tatkal ka matlab kya hota hai?+
Premium Tatkal yaani Tatkal quota ka ek hissa jo kuch trains par badalte fare par bikta hai: seat jaise-jaise bikti hain, fare badhta jaata hai. Sirf confirmed seat milti hai, waiting nahi, cancel karne par refund nahi, aur booking sirf IRCTC website ya app par apne account se. Koi agent ise book nahi kar sakta.
