One of the country's busiest business corridors, and the family route for Mumbai's Gujarati community. It's short enough for a day trip, which means chair car and executive chair car are what most travellers are fighting over.

Who travels Mumbai to Ahmedabad, and when
Weekday business travel all year, with sharp festival peaks at Navratri, Diwali and the Gujarati New Year, and Uttarayan in January. Friday and Sunday evenings are the hardest slots of the week.
Most trains start at Mumbai Central or Bandra Terminus, so you book at the originating station. The Vande Bharat, Shatabdi and Tejas are daytime chair-car services; the Duronto and the overnight mail trains give you a berth. Executive chair car often has seats after chair car has sold out.

Booking Mumbai–Ahmedabad without getting caught out
- Live in the western suburbs? Board at Borivali — most Gujarat trains stop there, and it saves the run into Mumbai Central.
- Going to Gandhinagar? The Vande Bharat runs through to Gandhinagar Capital.
- Navratri and Diwali book out early in both directions. Book the return when you book the outbound.

Mumbai to Ahmedabad, answered
Vande Bharat, Shatabdi or Tejas?+
All three are fast daytime chair-car trains, and whichever has the confirmed seat on your date is the right answer. We check all three — and the overnight trains if you'd rather arrive in the morning.
Should I board at Borivali?+
If you live in the western suburbs, usually yes. Most Gujarat trains stop there, and it saves the journey into Mumbai Central or Bandra.
